this weekend we went roller skating!

it was a pretty remote rollerskating rink far away in maryland. i didn’t know roller skating rinks still existed, this one felt like it was stuck in time. complete with disco ball, old school lockers, and rental roller skates with orange laces. it was called starland and had an amazing old sign.

roller skating was my favorite as a kid. and as soon as i put on my skates i sure felt like i was seven years old again. holly got the hang of it quickly and within ten minutes wasn’t holding onto my hand for dear life.

this will be the summer of roller skating. i’ve been searching online for some brand new roller skates for us.

“tonight you belong to me”

a favorite song we like to sing with the uke. made famous in the fifties by the lemmon sisters and later sung by Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters in this beautiful and funny scene from the “The Jerk”.

have a great memorial day weekend!

loophole

one_tuesday_in_may

we’ve exposed our kids at a very early age to the world of antiquing. our four year old refers to our trips as treasure hunts – we pile into the car, pack some snacks, and hope for long naps. yesterday we went on a procurement day-trip together along the back roads of virginia. our baby boy is easy and is happy to be carried as we peruse antiques and by now our daughter definitely knows the drill – “don’t touch anything”.  but yesterday she found a loophole. she picked up a long blade of grass outside the shop so that she could still “touch” things, but with the grass. “see, i’m not touching it”. hmm, we’re in trouble.

we skipped school (preschool) one day last week and brought holly to the natural history museum in dc. best part was walking through the live butterfly exhibit.
