I’m so excited about this book I just bought yesterday for Holly and wanted to share it.

It’s about a little red headed boy name Liam who lives in a city of drab gray and happens upon an abandoned railway, slowly transforming it into a beautiful garden. A story about how nature can thrive in the unlikeliest of places. It was inspired by the High Line and it’s called “The Curious Garden” by Peter Brown.

The High Line opened this week in NYC. I’m glad the city saved this abandoned elevated track from the 1930’s and that green grass and flowers grow along these tracks. It’s industry vs. nature and nature won! It looks beautiful.

Check out these short vignettes about the high line on the sundance channel “High Line Stories”.

grandma_julie

i love looking through old family photos. i especially love the old square format kodak photos and the ones with the rounded corners that are printed in the back like a postcard. i found this one recently, of my lola (grandma) julie and i from 1978.

she taught me how to crochet. made her own clothes and sewed many patchwork quilts. and held my hand at a skate park one summer in july.
