The shop is coming along. With the help of generous family and friends we made a lot of progress in just two weeks. (Big thank-yous to Mike, Dave, Donovan, Brandon and Sam!) We’ve painted floors, added wood floors, stained, sanded, put up salvaged wood on some walls, extended a wall and added a window. We’re not done but almost there.
It’s so satisfying to put so much work into this space which we love – and to make it what we envisioned for Three Potato Four. Can’t wait for you to see it when it’s done.
Although we didn’t move to a farm we are fortunate that our house in PA is very near to a large orchard. Our good friends were visiting us this weekend and we took them to the orchard. We picked our own peaches, nectarines and plums. So yummy! So far, Stu and I are loving this area and are so happy the kids seem to be adjusting to our new surroundings as well. Will update soon on our storefront progress, we have been working long hours to get it opened soon.
After searching for many months for a space we are excited to share with you this news. We’ve ran our business from our home for the past three years and were really ready for the shop to have its own space. Stu and I have lots of work to do but hope to open to the public soon. Three Potato Four’s new home will be in an old wool mill in Manayunk, a neighborhood in the northwestern section of Philadelphia. We can’t be more excited to find this old mill space that has so much history and character. Follow us here as we document our move to Philly and our transformation and opening of our shop.
Over the Memorial Day weekend we went camping at Assateague Island along the Maryland seashore. It was the first time Stu and I brought H + O on a camping trip and they had a great time. Highlights were wild horses sightings, shell collecting, chili cooked over our fire-pit in a dutch-oven pot, roasted marshmallows, and sleeping under a sky full of stars. We left our camera and phones behind so weren’t able to capture many photos but these are some tokens we brought back from our trip, along with a few mosquito bites.
Check out the newest (June 2010) issue of Real Simple magazine. This month’s issue is all about “Organizing Your Life”. The beautiful photo above is from the Organizing for your Personality article and features our Secret Hideaway Books. Thank you, Real Simple!
Our nephew (who is in high school) is taking a film class this year. He created a stop-motion video for his class with these paper cutouts he made. They are pretty great, we’re proud of him!
One recent Saturday we went to a Nature Center at a local county park. We sat in a cabin and listened to a park ranger talk about birds, worms and fossils, held a snake, caught tadpoles + let them go and then fell in a pond. Good stuff.
Watched Fantastic Mr. Fox again when H was home sick one afternoon. The laboratory scene is great. Many of the science charts and diagrams in the background are similar to ones we have sold in our shop.
