Educational Chart - Owl Study "Schoolplaten"
Early 20th century print by illustrator and painter Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek. Koekkoek was a scientific illustrator for the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden (Netherlands). This original "school plate" is entitled "Vrienden der duisternis". which we believe translates to "Friends of Darkness", includes illustration of the following: Barn Owl (Tyto alba), Brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus), Honeysuckles (Lonicera), Eurasian Water Shrew (Neomys fodiens), Red Underwing (Catocala nupta), Oak (quercus), Ragwort (Jacobaea vulgaris), nettles (urtica) and White Campion (Silene latifolia).
Lithograph is mounted to very thick board. Print is very aged and weathered with a very slight bow to it. Measures 40" x 29" Signed M.A. Koekkoek
