Framed 60's/70's Diner Placemat - "Alternate Energy Sources"
 #Diner - Ener
Growing up in Jersey, diners were a part of everyday life and created great memories for me (stu). Inspired by the diners I grew up with, I set out to collect old diner placemats. Each diner placemat is unique and has its own quirky way of sharing trivia and little-known facts.

This placemat entitled "Alternate Energy Sources" provides some insight into the burgeoning green movement of the day. Let's see how far we've come... Includes listings of the Source, Advantages, Disadvantages and "Comments" about various alternate energy sources. Here's an example:

  • Plant Bio-Conversion
  • Source: land crops such as sugar cane, rubber plant, sunflower, etc.
  • Advantages: easily converted, little air or water pollution, renewable
  • Disadvantages: not cost competitive with conventional fuels, requires useful land needed for food crops
  • Comments: not a new idea. In mid 1800's wood supplied more than 90% of U.S. energy supply. Liquid fuels such as ethanol and methanol can be distilled from carbohydrate producing plans as a substitute for oil
  • Placemats come in a clean and simple walnut wood frame ready for display.
