Propagation of the Faith Globe Bank
We have an affinity for globe banks, but have never seen one so lovely and so curious. The globe, which we estimate to be from the 1960's, is labeled on the bottom with "The Society for the Propagation of the Faith" and an accompanying crucifix mark. The globe features a subtle yet striking color palette of subdued primaries and strangely odd and intriguing upper-left justification of country names within each country (rather than centered).

Additional curiosities include no delineation between North and South America, no recognition of Antarctica as a continent, and short paragraphs for each color-designated land mass, explaining the color selection. These include, "White is for Europe because the White Shepherd, our Holy Father, lives in Rome". "Yellow is for Asia. It stands for the morning light of the East and the cradle of World Civilization". "Blue is for Oceania because the islands ris out of the waters of the blue Pacific". "Green is for Africa. It is the sacred color of the Moslems for whom we pray, and for all those who live in its green forests". "Red is for America because the Red Men first founded the continent".

Globe is in good vintage condition, measures approximately 6" in diameter and has its original piggy bank plug.
